The yacht, Athene, in 1964, the year she won the very first Big Boat Series, a series hosted by the St Francis Yacht Club, the Bay Area’s most prestigious yacht club. The 63’ yawl was raced successfully by her owner and then-commodore of the St Francis, James Wilhite. Originally built in 1937 in New York, for R.J. Reynolds as his cruising yacht, Athene collected a distinguished assortment of racing trophies, both ocean racing and around the buoys on the Bay. All DeWitt Giclees are first generation prints, sourced directly from the original and fine-tuned by Jay Daniel of Black Cat Studio in Novato, California. Jay has been Jim's only authorized Giclee printer since 1988. They are the best possible reproduction of Jim's vibrant, colorful, action-oriented artwork.
