Original Oil "Adventuress Under Full Sail" (30" x 30")

$14,995.00

The yacht Adventuress, a 133’ gaff-rigged schooner, built in Maine in 1913 for John Borden. Borden intended to use the boat to catch a bowhead whale in Alaska for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The boat was later used by the San Francisco Bar Pilots Association to transfer pilots to and from cargo ships near the Farallon Islands. The US Coast Guard used the boat during World War II to guard San Francisco Bay. She is now a National Historic Landmark in Seattle, used for environmental educational programs about Puget Sound by Sound Experience. Only one original of this image exists, hand-painted in oil on canvas by Jim DeWitt. The artist's actual brush strokes give the painting startling depth and brilliance. A provenance accompanies each DeWitt original oil to document its origin, authenticate its value, and establish a formal ownership sequence. The lasting qualities of an original oil means that you can enjoy the splendor of this artwork now and pass it on to future generations as a rare and treasured heirloom
