Giclee Print "Viking"
Viking, one of the two remaining whaleboats on San Francisco Bay. Whaleboats have been sailing on San Francisco Bay since the earliest days of settlement in the area. The first complete description of sailing a whaleboat on the Bay is in Richard Henry Dana’s famous memoir, Two Years Before the Mast, where he recounts sailing a whaleboat from Yerba Buena Cove (today’s Montgomery and Clay Streets in San Francisco) to Wood Island (Angel Island) to collect firewood for the ship’s galley stove in 1835. Not being familiar with the strong tidal current, he and his shipmates had quite a hard time just getting to the protected cove in Raccoon Strait. All DeWitt Giclees are first generation prints, sourced directly from the original and fine-tuned by Jay Daniel of Black Cat Studio in Novato, California. Jay has been Jim's only authorized Giclee printer since 1988. They are the best possible reproduction of Jim's vibrant, colorful, action-oriented artwork. Each Giclee is quality checked and authenticated with an embossed signature and a Certificate of Authenticity is included. The image is printed on 120 lb. museum quality paper and reduced to allow for a minimum border. Finished image dimensions depend on the aspect ratio of the original. If need be, contact us to confirm actual printed image size prior to placing your order. We also offer fully customized print sizes of all DeWitt images to suit your needs.
